Littlest Pet Shop

so, when my 6 year old came home from her playdate she said she wants Littlest Pet Shop for her birthday. it's not til October but i figured i'd look around on Amazon to start getting ideas.

HO...LY... CRAP!

WHY on earth are they so expensive? they look like tiny dollhouses for $200-400 bucks! granted, there are smaller sets that range from the $20-80 price range but then you pretty much only get 1 or 2 accessories with it.

are they worth this much money? are the pieces durable or are they cheap crap?

  • My daughter has one of the sets, a playground with a slide, an elevator, a merry-go-round thing, etc. It was given to her for her birthday, and I've been pleasantly surprised at how durable it is. I BOUGHT HER A car thing from Amazon that has also held up well, and she's gotten a few of the little sets of different animals as gifts. I'd stay away from the cheaper sets because those accessories you get with them are teeny weeny, and if your daughter is like mine, she'll have those microscopic pieces lost in no time. As to why they're so expensive, I wish I knew! It's a lucky dog who invented the silly things. My daughter has spent a ton of hours playing with them, though, so I'd call at least one big set worth the money.

  • We get ours LPS stuff at target on sale so it's not as expensive. We really only have the smaller sets and use big sister's old dollhouse instead. We've been collecting the animals and a few accessories for years and the've really held up well.

  • My 3 yo is really getting into them. Fortunately we have tons left over from my almost 12 yo. They've held up this long!

  • Yep- went thru that phase here too. And Polly Pockets. They've all held up very well. We got most of ours at Target & Toys R Us. They're not all that expensive. Oh to have stock in some of these companies.... :p
