Anyone with thyroid problems that can help?

My mother in law has some problems and the Dr.s are not helping much - just wondering of anyone has these problems or knows anything about them. She has anxiety, she is tired a lot, she has dark lines in her fingernails, she never feels well, her neck gets hot and red and she has really dry hair. She thinks this is all related to her thyroid, but not sure - any thoughts?

  • A simple blood test can check her thyroid, and have them check to see if she anemic. If her Dr. is not listening have her find a new one.

  • A malfunctioning thyroid can cause all kinds of problems. Her symptoms could be thyroid related, but they could be a lot of other things too I'm sure. If she has not had her thyroid hormone levels tested that would be a starting place. Her regular doctor might only run a basic test which can miss some thyroid problems. An endocrinologist will run more extensive tests, but it may be hard to get a referral for the specialist if her doctor doesn't think her thyroid is a problem. Whether it really is her thyroid or not, she needs to press the issue with or doctor or find a new one who will try to find out what is going on.
