Can i make sloppy joes with these ingredients?

green peppers
brown sugar
diced tomatoes
beef (obviously)

the only thing i dont have that i see in a lot of recipes is tomato soup or tomato paste. maybe i can make it work with the ketchup and tomatoes and just add water??

  • Sure....use the tomatoes and thicken with ketchup. Don't add water until you see what the consistency is after simmering for awhile.

  • We do it with the ketchup, mustard and brown sugar, dice up a little onion in it, and it's delicious.

  • I think you can make an acceptable sloppy joe but I would not ad water at least not at first. I would cut the tomatoes over the pot and use the juice. Start to cook slowly to release more of the juices and ingredients as usual and add a little water if needed.

  • I say yes, I usually use BBQ sauce, but the ketchup and brown sugar could do it.

  • I wouldn't add water I normal use ketchup and mustard no tomato paste, sauce, or diced.

  • Definitely. Just add water, a little at a time, till you get the consistency you want. We like a thick sauce here, so I'd barely add any water at all if I were using those ingredients.
