Do I keep getting child support if my son's dad dies in deployment?

My son's father and I were never married. He is deploying soon and in his will he is leaving a bit of money to his father and the rest to our son. He has made it clear that I will not have access to any money. Will I keep receiving help to care for my son?

  • Hopefully your son's father will come back whole and healthy, and none of this will be an issue.

  • He would probably get some sort of SS death benefit, or a trust for when your child is older.

  • If it's in his will then that money will go to a trust account that your son will be able to access when he turns 18. You will cease to receive money.

You handle this by having your own disability insurance
