Epilepsy and divorce...

I have had epilepsy all my life. Been married to my dh for almost 16 years. I am very unhappy, but not sure if I can make it on my own with three kids. I am being mentally abused and my kids are old enough to notice it and knows things aren't right. They have school, activities, church etc. How can we make it on our own and me not being able to drive. I have no family close enough to help? Is there anywhere I could get some help or advice?

  • Since you are active in your church I think I would start there. Following that, check in with your social services department to see what resources are available to you.

As you cannot drive due to epilepsy, have you applied for disability with Social Security? I assume you're being closely monitored by your doctor so his patient notes should be of great help to you. Many physician offices will even help you with the paperwork.

Although you do not have a bus system, do check and see if your community has a shuttle line for people with disabilities. Many do, even if they have no other mass transit options.

I have Epilepsy and I drive"

Wondering if maybe they are not controlled?

  • I am already on disability for my epilepsy. My county doesn't even have any time of shuttle sysytem for the disabled. Of course the county next to me does...

  • Then look into moving to the next county. Seriously. That's a way better option than staying with an abusive man and exposing your children to that.

  • I don't drive because they are not under control. They are all over the place. I can go a couple weeks without one, then have 4 or 5 a day. No way I can drive like that.

  • Are you on medication? Are your seizures controlled?

  • I am on meds, but they aren't controlled right now. I had went almost 2 years without one about year ago. Then they started up again. I think alot of it is stress. I really think if I get rid of him, they will get under control shortly after.
