Is this normal-ish?

I know all kids develop differently and all.... but I am teaching my sons VBS class this year and every single other kid colors in the lines...neatly... he still scribbles all over. He has never really been fond of sitting to color... and he stayed home with me... no formal preschool. I am not really worried about him, just wondering more if i should work on this with him or if he will just come around while in school? He can print letters, draw shapes. knows his colors how to count to 100 ect ect... so not delayed but just the coloring...lol

  • Some kidsjust aren't really into coloring. I wouldn't worry too much. Try asking him to color a small picture as neatly as he can in the lines, just to see if he has the skill to do it. But most likely, he'll catch on in school.

  • Mine still scribbles. He hates to color. I think it's a perfectionist issue with him, though. He refuses to try, because he's so afraid to fail (how do you fail at coloring, though? lol).

  • Not really. I do think he will be happier if you work with him now.

  • I worried about this with my dd but later on we realized she is quite artistic and hates being told how to express her creativity. So think out side the box so to speak lol

  • He prob just doesn't want to color ... My dd is 5 and she can color neatly when she wants to but other times she just kinda scribbles :) I'm sure it's perfectly normal!
