Horrible smell in house and CANNOT find the source >:(

My house STINKS. It's not from lack of cleaning either. We don't have dishes piled up, nothing has spilled anyone, no food rotting in weird places, we don't have carpet (hardwood floors all around), no animals. It smells like something died in here and I smell it throughout the whole house.

Help!?

  • Maybe a dead animal inside the wall or attic? Have you checked the attic?

  • What type of heater vents do you have? A few years ago at work something died in the vents in the office and we had to spray febreeze like crazy until the boss was able to get someone in to take care of it. Is it possible there could be something in your vents? Do you know if there are any holes in your walls where something could have gotten in the drywall?

  • Also check behind your dryer for a dead mouse. Found one there. Was grossed out lol

  • Check the garbage disposal in your sink. Sometimes when our apartment starts stinking we need to clean out the disposal and run a lemon through it. We do that, and the stink is gone.

  • I agree with the others. Since it is throughout the house, check your vents first.

  • I'm sure it's a dead mouse in the wall. It could even be in the garage or under the fridge.

  • Ugh when that happened, it was a mouse that crawled into the dryer exhaust tube in the middle of winter when I lived in WI.

  • Have you checked the garbage disposal? Sometimes mine gets smelly, even when we run it all the time. Bleach works wonders.
