Cruel unusual punishment

new neighbors have their 12 year old son cutting the lawn with scissors he has been out there 5 hours, while his little brother and sister play in the yard, and his mom sitting on the porch just watching, would you have your 12 year old son doing that? ugh bad impression of them now, I think its just awful.

  • Maybe I am crazy but that sound borderline abusive. How hot is it? Has he been allowed to stop for water breaks?

  • if he's been allowed water breaks and it's not too hot
it could be a form of discipline?
perhaps the kid had been using drugs or damaged property etc.?

  • It depends what he's being punished for.

  • If it is not super hot and they are making sure his needs are met than I guess it is not abusive. Not something I would do though. However, I did have DD open and close her door quietly for 20 minutes straight one day. :D I was really tired of her slamming it.

  • It's possible he REALLY broke the rules. They're not beating him, it's not excessively hot outside. He's probably uncomfortable and tired and I bet he doesn't do whatever he did again.

But, like was mentioned above, I guess a lot depends on what he's being punished for. Since you're not likely to ever know that, I'm not sure what you can do.

  • I think it's a great punishment really. It's not HOT outside and I'm guessing he did something wrong. If all parents were like this, we might not have as many issues with kids as we do. They need to learn consequences. If you don't like it, stop looking outside.

  • Also, if you haven't met her yet, go take her a beer and find out WTH he did. Then congratulate her on stepping up!!!
