How old was your little one when they gave up naps?

my oldest is now 8 she gave up her naps when we moved to where we are now at 19 months, but I think it was because the room she had here wasnt as dark as at the other place we lived. My now 5 and a half year old up her naps i cant remember but pretty sure it was about 2 or 2 and a half. Well I am about to have 2 out of 3 kids in school and this is my last baby so not ready to give up the naps yet lol. She just turned 2 a couple weeks ago. And I am pretty sure she is ready to give them up :( she sometimes wont nap then sometimes she will but if she does she wont go to bed until 10 at night. I put her down for a nap around 11 and she wakes at around 2-3 (i dont think she falls asleep right away) how can i get her to start sleeping at night?

  • My Son napped daily until he was almost 5! He's a little rocket & needed that to charge his battery. My Daughter just turned 2 & she still naps. She goes down for a nap at about 12 noon & I only let her sleep the latest until 2:30 or else she'll have a hard time going to bed at night. So I'd push your child's nap to 11:30 or 12 & let her sleep no later than 2:30. If you push the nap a little later than 11 then she'll be more tired & go to sleep faster. A bath before nap time helps & a full belly too!

  • they will still take naps if i enforce it, but i dont anymore because then they'll be up all night. i stopped doing naps probably about a year ago, though i will make my youngest take one sometimes when she is being impossibly difficult & usually that's exactly what she needed. they are 3, 4 & 6

  • Four of mine were around 3 when they stopped sleeping but I continued to put them in their room for an hour of "quiet time" where they could look at books on their bed or choose a quiet toy to play with but had to stay in bed. I continued that until kindergarten. My youngest turned 3 in July and is still sleeping - 2 hours at nap and 12 hours at night.

  • My oldest never gave them up willingly. I had to force him not to nap the summer before kinder because it was an all day school with no naps. My youngest said no more naps at 15 months.
