How can i make a dome cake?

i am making a cake for my friend's daughter. i was thinking about making a 2-tiered minnie mouse cake. how can i make the dome part? i have pasted a picture for reference. I have a month to prepare, so i'm getting the stuff ready. i do have a little experience in decorating cakes, but never made a dome cake before. any ideas how can i accomplish that? buying a ball cake pan is the only option? is there any other way, like carving/cutting it in dome shape?

  • If you have a stainless steel bowl, you can make your cake in that. Or, a Pyrex , oven proof bowl.
Make sure to use Pam for easy removal.

  • You and buy a pan for that. Some places will rent the specialty pan. you can also make the dome out of rice crispies treat mixture in a saran line bowl and then covered in fondant.
You can laryer sponge cakes and then cut/ trim the shape of the bowl and cover in fondant.

  • I'd probably just shape it myself- cake pans are pricey!
