  • I think on average it's 13ish. Once all their teeth come in and stop shifting.

  • My son is just under 9 and was told at 8 braces were in his future. Since it is just teeth and not jaw issues they will send him to an ortho when he has all his adult teeth. My DH's jaw was out of line. He got his on at 9.

  • I had braces twice. I was 7 the first time and I only got them on my four front teeth on the top and the bottom. When my adult teeth came in, they were that crooked! I got them on again when I was 11 after all my adult teeth came in.

My son got his on at 13 after his adult teeth came in.

Most orthodontist give free consultations. Check a few out and see what they say.

  • Both my girls had them twice - the youngest was once in the fourth grade and again in the eight grade. It all depends - everyone is different. My son at his last check up will need them in about six month, so he'll be a freshman in high school.
