Why is my coffee bitter?

I got a senseo espresso maker from a family member and when I first used it everything was fine. i recently got it out of storage, washed it, and began using it again and ever since the coffee is extremely bitter. I'm using the same kind of packets as i did when I first got it so why is it so bitter this time?

  • I don't know if those have the same workings as a regular espresso machine, but it might need cleaned out, especially if you have hard water. Some you can run vinegar through it, others you can't, so best to check the manual.

  • I was going to say vinegar too but I'm not sure that's doable with one of those machines

  • Espresso is bitter. It is not the same as coffee from a regular coffee maker.

  • Yep, check your manual, but I would run vinegar through it, then water twice to clean it. Are the packets brand new or were they in storage as well? They may have gone bad.

  • Espresso is bitter. Perhaps buying whole bean and grinding it up yourself would be the best bet.

  • TY. I'm going to see if i can find some citric acid then since i don't know what model my Senseo is and see if that helps. I know espresso is typically bitter but the kid i get is flavored and i've never had this happen to me before.
