X-ray will be positive, pain level off the charts, obvious deformity, mechanism of injury indicative of Fx, inability to move the joint, or extremely limited ROM... those are the most common indicators.
Swelling (edema) is not necessarily indicative of a fracture (Fx)... edema is more often soft tissue.

The only way you can tell for sure is with an X-ray. Go to an ER or Urgent care & get one so it can be treated properly.
