  • broke mine as a child
    it hurts a lot
and hurts when you move it
    no swelling that i remember

parents took me to ped, he said it was fine
next day a real doctor looked at x ray, mother picked me up early from school and took me to the real doctor

x ray is way to tell if broken

  • Since the elbow is at a joint, my guess would be that you can not move it.
If you can the you might hear something ore you have extreme pain.
You my have a hairline fracture which might have neither

  • Swelling,excruciating pain
I broke mine a few years ago. Every time i so much as had my sleeve brush against it,I almost barfed

  • X-ray will be positive, pain level off the charts, obvious deformity, mechanism of injury indicative of Fx, inability to move the joint, or extremely limited ROM... those are the most common indicators.

Swelling (edema) is not necessarily indicative of a fracture (Fx)... edema is more often soft tissue.

  • You really need to see a doctor. Go to the emergency room or an urgent care clinic.

  • The only way you can tell for sure is with an X-ray.  Go to an ER or Urgent care & get one so it can be treated properly.

  • My son broke his. Very painful and a lot of swelling.

This can actually be very dangerous. We took my son to the local Walk In urgent care place. They took an x ray and sent us to the local trauma unit as an injury like that can cause a very serious condition called 'Compartment Syndrome"

Take whomever has the possible broken elbow to get it checked out NOW!!
