How soon after giving birth is it SAFE to starting trying to conceive again?

I'm 6 months pregnant with my second child and I'm just asking out of curiosity. How soon after having a baby is it safe to try to conceive again?

  • Depends on your body. Ask your doctor what he recommends. Most people say 6 months to a year.

  • Best to wait a year. My doctor told me this: When you breastfeeding your body naturally stops your period, it's your body's way of telling you it's too soon.. You already have a baby to feed (as formula isn't actually "natural" ) I had a baby 7 months ago and I'm just now starting to slow down my boob feedings and giving more formula.. Period just started lightly not long ago

  • This is a question for your doctor. I was always told that it is better for you and for the child if you wait one year in between birth and conception.
    Many healthy babies are born with less time in between and many mothers are just fine doing it. That is just what was the recommended time frame.
