WE has this show on now called Painted Babies. I am so disgusted and nauseated by it! These little girls are like 5 and under. One little girl was only two or three years old and was dressed like a Vegas showgirl and doing a sexy dance! This other little girl's grandmother entered her in the show and said "I think she can win and Grandma needs a new car" how outrageous! Hasn't this gone too far? Isn't this sick?

  • I wouldn't if I were you. These things are magnets for perverts and deviants. I wouldn't want my child to be fodder for some sleazy degenerate's wet dream.

  • I've put my dd in two local pageants already... I think they are great! They are an awesome way to earn savings bonds, and even college tuition!!! Of course I don't put make up on my LO, but I do dress her up in frilly dresses!!! I grew up doing pageants and I absolutely loved them! I want my DD to have that opportunity also!! They aren't all bad!

  • I don't do Padgets. I have already told grandma if she tries to sneak any of my girls into one she will lose her weekend visits. I find them demeaning, and something pedofiles love. When they are teens they can decide then..

  • You don't think that making your child compete on her physical attributes is a bad thing? Doesn't society already give your daughter enough messages about her value being based on her looks without it being reinforced in this way? Be pretty for money? What does that sound like?

Answer by beckcorc at 12:29 AM on Feb. 19, 2009

  • No I don't think its a bad thing. My daughter is young- 3 months- society has no impact on her right now. So what if she is being "pretty for money" in your opinion...! She is a baby...I don't look at it that way. I see it as fun...a great way to meet new people...and something she can look forward too!!! When she gets older she can decide for herself if she wants to continue them or not. But as of right now, I make the decisions for her. Like I said, I grew up doing them... I know what they are like. Its just a matter or knowing and being comfortable with the business. She also does local modeling jobs for boutique ads... I think its great... I stand by my decisions and opinions.... She will grow up with confidence in herself and her appearance... tons of friends, and a lifetime of memories... Does this make me a "bad mom" in your opinion?? hmm...
