What is a courthouse wedding like?

Can you wear an actual wedding dress to one? Or would that be too much?

  • You can. You could also pay the Justice of the Peace to come to a location of your choice, like a park or backyard, and just have friends come to stand up for you, and then McDonald's drive thru for dinner! LOL

  • You can wear anything you like you can have a couple of witnesses. You can have family there.
You go and get your license (not signed yet) to take up to the judge. You are numbered by the order in which they were issued..
When it is your turn you coe forward and the judge goes through the marriage vows with you. You may have a ring or not. The courthouse supplies the two witnesses, in case someone does not have them. Pictures can be taken. Flowers can be carried. They don't rush you out but courtesy demands that you not dally too long.
While you are signing the next couple is coming into place.

  • You can wear pretty much whatever you want. Some smaller towns even let you play a song or read a poem or something, but the busier courthouses want you in and out. Overall, short and sweet. Easy peasy, mac and cheesey.

  • That's the beauty of it - there's no "norm" :) You can go in fancy dress if you feel like it!
