Do you "Carb up your kids" prior to sporting events?

Our coach told the kids to eat a ton of carbs tonight and tomorrow before our soccer match. Am I the only one that does NOT do it? When I mentioned that I dont change her diet, Ever, the other soccer moms looked at me all crazy like.

  • I don't.
    Why are you supposed to?

  • No. Unless the kids are performing at a highly competitive level, there's no need.

  • ^^^^I was thinking the same as missanc. I wouldn't think it was necessary for younger kids. I mean I would make sure they ate healthy and were well hydrated before a game, but I thought carbing up was for marathon runners and bodybuilding.

  • Feral, I believe it's to give them more energy.

I could see it if they are hs football players, but not little six yr old soccer kids. Right?

  • I'm more concerned with fluids. It will be on the upper 90s during the game.

Gosh, I wish they did healthy snacks like fruits. I'm literally known as "that mom" with the healthy snacks when it's my turn to bring them. Last year the worst snack offender brought sodas, cookies and skittles. Dd knew better than to dare touch that soda. She'd be sick for days.
