Paw problem

I have a 3 year old Beagle. He has started licking and biting at his one paw. The vet had no available appointments until Monday. He doesn't want us touching it, I've tried looking at it but he pulls away. He seems to be walking on it with no problem.
Is there anything I can do to get him to stop licking and biting? Its starting to look irritated.

  • Sounds like he may have a sliver in it. Just a guess.
Would he tolerate a bandage around it until Monday? Like an Ace bandage.
The only other way would be to put a cone on him.
    Poor thing. :(

  • When was the last time his nails were trimmed?
Here the ground has been very hot and the dogs do not want t be on the cement or asphalt because it burns the feet. It is not to the point of an actual burn but it dries the skin and makes it draw up. You could rub a little Neosporin into the pad.

  • Do you have someone who could help you gently restrain the dog so you can look at the paw and see if it's an easy fix like a small cut or a splinter?
