S/O what is you favorite soup reciepe?

We don't do much soup because I think canned sucks and I have never really tried to make any.
I think I want to make some, freeze it and have it ready for this cooler weather heading our way.

  • Chicken Noodle soup! We make it in the crockpot and DS LOVES it. It is easy to make and I can throw whatever we have on hand in there.

  • Beef and barley, and minestrone, are my 2 favorites. I've never frozen minestrone, but I know beef & barley freezes well.

  • I buy 2 boneless/skinless chicken breast. Cut up into bite size pieces.
Put in pot and add 4 cans Swanson chicken broth, chopped celery, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer until chicken is done.
Add 2cans Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup, with water...mix well.

I use x-tra wide egg noodles, add them to the broth 15 mins before eating. Heat up some rolls and salad and you have a delicious meal. :)

  • We only recently started playing with a potato soup recipe, so I don't have anything concrete written down yet.

This is close to the one we started with:

    http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2010/10/ham-and-potato-soup.html

omitted: celery, broth, and  diced ham from a ham steak

added: homemade stock from a ham bone and leftovers, with the meat left in (that replaced the ham - we strained out the bone and veggies from the stock, but left the ham pieces), also bay leaf, basil, garlic and onion.  We made the stock with the celery, but did not put more in, the carrots we did replace in the final soup.

Still playing with it, but the end result from that recipe with those changes was pretty good.

  • You can also use cream of celery soup instead of celery.

  • my favorite is a tomato basil that has large hunks of sausage in it. but its a major pain to make and takes hours, so we never have it. my go to is split pea, so easy! bag of split peas, any kind of broth, chunks of ham (usually left over from another meal), garlic, onion, and a little pepper...sometimes carrots. put in crockpot on low for 6-8 hours and thats it!
