1 Bump

I almost said no this time, somebody slap me.

So I got a text from my friend with the hellish toddlers last night at 6:00. I ALMOST flat told her no, I can't watch your kids anymore. *sigh* someone please slap some sense into me?

Her: Are you able to watch kids from Mon-Thurs?
Me: Not at my house
Her: That's fine. Our house is clean now so you can watch them over here. I just suggested your house that one time because our place was trashed and I didn't want to make you sit in it all day. I understand
Me: For how long?

30 min later
Her: I would bring them to you in the morning about 8:30 and until [her man] gets home. More than likely sooner but I don't know
Me: I don't think that's going to work this time
Her: Ok, what will work then?
Me: After I get back from taking kids to school
Her: Ok, does the end time work?
Me: Yeah
Her: ok

2.5 hours later
Her: Sorry it's so late [her man] just got home and informed me that plans have changed and we don't need you to babysit, but if [the oldest] can still meet up with you in the morning that would be awesome
Me: sure
Her: thank you

Some of this is paraphrased for clarity.

  • Hey! It's a step in the right direction.... and you're not watching them, after all.

  • i saw that fist text asking me if I could watch them and I just groaned. My first thought was how to politely say no. so happy I don't have to.

  • Keep on making excuses why you can't like you have errands to run or something to do with your family etc. Then she'll get the message & you won't have to say no. :)

  • Okay, look in the mirror. Now say, "No! No! I cannot watch your kids anymore! Look for another sitter! The answer is no!" Keep saying it. Practice it, know it, live it.

  • Here's how to politely say no:

    "No."

That's it. Requires no further explanation.

  • Oops. Didn't see your text. Sorry!

That would be the easiest one for me to pull off. :)

Thanx y'all for for the humor and reminders that I really don't want to do this.
