Whats the rule when roasting whole chickens?

is it half an hour per pound? i didnt realize the chicken i bought was almost 6 pounds, i dont usually buy them that big. so normally mine only need an hour and a half-2 hours, but i cant remember how long they need to stay in.

  • 5 - 6 lbs - 1¾ - 2½ hrs

    I'd start checking that thigh bone at two hours though. The standardized cooking times (for me) result in dry meat that requires a sauce of some sort :(

  • I think you are right, if it is that big, I would just start checking with a meat them. at 160-165 degrees in the fat part of the breast, take it out.
    I would say 21/2 hours at 350? You may have better luck crock potting that giant!

  • 170 degrees or /and when the legs come off easily is what I go by.
