  • Well, if they are still in diapers they are being curious and exploring. They do not know there is anything bad about it. Not all children do this. For the ones who do, the adults need to be diligent to change them as soon as possible. Older children need to be taught that this is not OK and also need really watchful adults to stop them from doing this.

  • SMH this is in teens, if your children are in diapers I am praying it is because they have a medical condition however, if they are in it long enough to play with it then you have a problem!

  • 18 mos and younger they don't know any better. 2-5 is poor parenting and lack of supervision. a 9-12 year old, though, is either emotionally disturbed or has a troll for a momma

  • Tweens would be overly old for this behavior unless there are developmental delays.

  • For a number of reasons. This can happe with trauma. It is about control. There are medical terms for this issue and it is not as uncommon as people would think. Transitions, anxiety, sensory issues, abuse, developmental delays...so many reasons. But there is no reason to be mean or snarky about it. Yes, it does happen in older kids as well. Perfectly otherwise healthy kids who have had intense issues sometimes do this. The most common reason I have seen is sexual and physical abuse.
