Can my 11 year old, 110 lb child take Advil. He has sore muscles in his neck and shoulders and I think the anti-inflamatory would benefit him.

  • My daughter takes up to 400 mg. She's 12 and has it prescribed for cramps already. Poor girl haha.

Anyway for her weight it's 100 mg/5 cc and she's allowed 4 tsp of the elixir. She just takes 2 tabs.

However check with a pharmacist to get real and professional advice.

  • I gave it to mine at that age, but I started with 1. If they still hurt an hour later I have them the 2nd one.

  • Are the sore muscles due to fever?

Personally I would avoid medication unless necessary. Would a hot bath help?

I have children's advil in the medicine cabinet and it has a dosage chart for 11 year olds up to 90 lbs. I think it is around 200mg for that weight but double check.

  • I'm sure your pediatrician would be happy to answer that for you. I really don't know, since most medical professionals will go off of weight rather than age, but it's always best to check with your Dr. to make sure.

  • I don't see why he couldn't. Like Missanc said, start with one. How long have his muscles been sore? Would ice or heat help?

  • Ask your doctor. He knows your child and what would be the best for him to take.
