About how much does car insurance go up if you have points on your license??

My FIL may be moving in with us, and he will be driving under our insurance. He has 2 points on his license that are recent. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you

  • Why will he be driving under your insurance? If he has his own vehicle, he can still have his own insurance, and you have yours. You may have to sign a waiver saying that you won't drive each other's vehicles, and maybe some kind of slight increase as a result, but that's all.

As far as how much points raise your rates, it depends on how many, what the points are for, and the insurance company itself. It could be just $10-20 or it could be a couple hundred or more. There's a lot of factors.

  • It depends on you insurance and the type of coverage you have. Your insurance will be going up simply because there is another person insured as well.

  • Call your insurance agent and ask. It really can vary.
