Kansas group - remove science from schools because it's a religion

Anti-evolution group sues to block Kansas school science standards
Even if you wanted to call atheism a religion, even though it's not, how would evolution be teaching atheism, when it only contradicts one fringe portion of one religion, but does not contradict the teachings of any of the other religions on the planet?

I've often wondered at the irony of using "indoctrination" as an argument against teaching basic evolutionary science (well tested, never disproved) while ignoring the indoctrination argument with regard to making children learn only the tenets of a single religious group whose beliefs used to be in the minority.

  • GRR-
They have every right to home school their children and teach them that we all came from a rib.
I doubt this will get very far but sadly it does get them attention!

  • "nature contains no moral messages framed in human terms."

Exactly. There is no morality to biology, only survival. There is no morality to the physical sciences, only chemistry and energy.

  • its just so stupid. by making evolution into a taboo topic they are insuring that their kids either grow up ignorant, or learn evolution in secret. when you tell kids (directly or indirectly) that something is wrong, bad, gonna warp their little minds, they just want to learn it all the more. but if they'd just let it be, it would be in & out just like the majority of stuff most kids learn.

or, heres an idea...why not put your precious Christian angel into a bubble private school so they will never have to learn anything that causes them to use their God given brain? i mean if its so very hard to teach your kids why you dont believe in something the school teachers, if its so hard to, ya know, being a parent, then maybe you shouldnt have kids to begin with!

  • Catholic schools put a great deal of emphasis on science and math and all the other disciplines.
They generally rank a good deal higher than their local public counterparts. Lutheran schools do as well.
