my daughter (1 1/2yrs) has a pot belly. she isnt over or under weight. she has always had a little belly. only recently , she doesnt seem to have an appetite. shell eat but not very much.

were talking maybe a bite of food per course. she snacks on stuff so i know she isnt going to starve. i just dont understand this little belly she has. bowl movements are normal and regular. she has never been sick (i breast feed). it seems to flatten out when she stands. hmmm.....curious. i hope its just me being a concerned mother and not something serious

  • A a 1-2 year old teacher I can tell you it is pretty common for them to go through a picky phase and have a round belly at this age. If you are concerned see your ped.

  • Little ones around that age often have a bit of a pot belly because their abdominal muscles simply aren't "grown up" enough to do their jobs yet. It doesn't mean anything, esp if everything is normal, and it sounds like it is.

    Enjoy the cuteness.

  • She's most likely fine. Most toddlers have a little pot belly, they also seem to push their little bellies out when they are standing and walking. They usually lean out as they get older.

If you are genuinely concerned for her health, consult with her Pediatrician.

  • Pot bellies at that age are normal but a trip to the Pediatrician may be a good idea to have her checked.

  • Pot bellies are common in toddlers. My youngest is almost 4 & is not overweight but, still has a bit of one. Toddlers are also notoriously picky eaters.

  • The proportions of a toddler's body makes their tummies look bigger and rounder than they actually are. Each of my kids had little fatty tummies, I loved it- I actually got sad once they started thinning out. Toddlers are very picky eaters, sometimes skipping one or two meals per day, its completely normal. Just tell yourself this: they won't starve between one meal and the next one.

  • The pot belly is more from the way a toddler stands and balances to walk.
