What do you put in your chili?

My boyfriend and I made chili tonight. It turned out really good. We decided to make our own rules and do what we want. Here is our recipe:

2 lbs ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 cans diced green chilies
1 can Pork and Beans
1 jar Pasta sauce (we used meat flavored)
1 can chili beans
2 cans kidney beans
1/2 a can of beer (drink the rest)
6 to 8 tbls chili powder
1 oz tabaso sauce (be careful)
1 tbl lemon juice (to balance out the sweet from the beer)

He browned the meat and cooked the onions then drained the meat. He dumped the meat and onions in the crockpot. Then we dumped in the rest of the ingredients and cooked on high for an hour. After stirring, he turned the heat down and continued to cook on low for a couple hours.

We just got done eating and there is still a lot left. I will be sending some home with him tomorrow. I can't wait until his home is my home and I won't have to say goodbye on Sundays anymore.

  • 2-3 lbs ground beef
a can of tomato paste and a big can of tomato sauce - add water and chili seasoning
cook for a couple hours then add cans of kidney beans- dark and light red, and pinto beens
    cook some more...

that's basically it. I do NOT like spicy chili, I like it mild. Hubby and son will add hotter spices if I let them (and I won't touch it!)

  • Sounds good. I might add red or yellow peppers, mushrooms, garlic. The sweet might have come partly from the pork 'n' beans as well as the beer.
