Orzo

I bought some on sale and fixed it for the first time, and nobody in my house was impressed. I found the orzo sort of sticky and chewy. Is it supposed to be like that, or would the texture have improved if I'd boiled it longer, even though I followed the package directions?

  • No. If you know how to make spaghetti..you make it the same way.
I like to add OLIVE oil to the water. ( just drizzeled in ) and boil till
al denti ( soft but NOT TOO soft on the outside and inside )
I hope you try again...orzo is good as a pasta salad or you just
add veggies or nothing at all or chicken
    Good luck.

  • It should be somewhat substantial. I use orzo in soups rather than as a pasta with sauce.

  • We love orzo. I've only ever used it in pilaf and soups. It's pasta, so it cooks up just like pasta. Overcooking it would just turn it to mush.

How did you prepare it? Just boiled in water?

  • It's pasta, but it's very tiny. It almost looks and taste like rice.

  • Yes, just boiled. I served it with white bean chili over it, the way I might usually use rice.
