Time for baby food?

My son just turned 4 months old on Sunday and I was wondering if it was time to start him on baby food? I am nursing him and occasionally he gets formula but I wanted to know if I should start him on rice cereal now!

  • its best to ask your dr about this one. Some people will tell you yes and others are going to say wait till he is 6months.
It really depends on where your baby is developmentally. such as
Can he sit up with support on his own?
Dont go by what people tell you on here only you and your dr know if your baby is ready or not.

  • Well that is up to you. Someone posted a question similar to this in a BF group, so i'm snagging her reply.

4-6 months is for FF babies, 6-9 is the minimum age for BF babies...heres info

  • Yeah Yeah Yeah let's let a bunch of books tell us how to raise our kids. My daughter is almost 8 months old and has been on baby food since she was 3 and 1/2 months old. Her doctor gave me the go ahead on everything except nuts, milk , and honey when she was a little over 4 months. She is happy healthy sleeps all night and had actually been ahead of schedual on everything from crawling sitting up alone and talking. Go with what your heart and doc say. If you feel baby is ready give him some food. If you think you should wait then wait. He will let you know just by the way he reacts to the new taste

  • I totally agree with wantherout08! Ask your heart and dr. My baby is fully BF and has been on cereal since 4 months and started 1st food veggies at 5 months and next week when she turns 6 months I will start her 1st fruits.

  • If your LO is showing signs of wanting adult food, I would start on cereal, from the spoon, not in a bottle.
When my LO was 4 months old, he could sit up and I had him with me and DH while we were eating hamburgers. He grabbed my burger and started to try to eat it. Needless to say, we started him on solids then. He actually never took to any baby foods, we just mashed up bits of our food and gave it to him.
Going by the book isn't always the right answer for you and your LO.
It may be too soon for your LO or it may not be. Go with the signs your LO is giving you.
