What to get an 8 year old on their birthday?

My son is all about the games, he has a ps3, a wii and a Nintendo DS, thinking about getting him the next big thing in game world a PS Vita, does anyone have one, do the kids use it? please no bashing me for letting my child use games, my son does not play games with violence or bad language as some parents do and he doesn't play games all day either he is rewarded with playing for a few hours a day of what I call screen time he decides what he does with it, computer, TV, or games?

  • No bashing.. but maybe try to expand his horizons. My 8 year old loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and anything science.. her microscope was a big hit, a snap-circuit set is so cool at that age too.

  • oh wow thanks this was a big help for my christmas list for him, he loves science so thank you anestheticsex those were great ideas, he loves toys and books but is so much more into games that's all really, I have to tell him to stop playing games and just play or read he has no objections unless he didn't get to play his games yet.

  • My 9 year old is Minecraft crazy. I don't know if he could be into that? I like get get those big catalogs & let the kids look through them and make up wish lists, with the things they want most of all at the beginning. They know that they're not getting EVERYTHING on there.

  • Another good book series is The World According to Humphrey. My son really enjoyed that one when he was that age.
