Can you help me to think of some questions to ask my therapist?

My therapist and I have this thing we do at the end of each session. I ask him a question that requires some thought, then he give me his answer at the next session. It's designed so I can get to know him better. So you'll get an idea of the types of questions, here's an example of some I've asked him:

1) If you could wake up tomorrow with complete mastery of one skill, what would that skill be?
2) If post secondary education had not been an option, what do you think you would be doing for a living right now?
3) What 3 books would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

Can you help me think of some more questions in the same vein?

  • Why are you asking the questions?

Seems to me it should be reversed! How is your therapist supposed to get to know you?

  • Maybe what made him want to get into the mental health field.

  • That doesn't sound ethical

  • KTElite, he asks me plenty of questions. The entire session, save for the last minute or so, is all about me. :) Learning a little about him as a human, though, helps me to not idealize him. It's helpful for my process, and not at all unethical.

  • The questions also are revealing insights into her own mind.
It is clever but us helping you defeats the purpose.

  • If you could have any gift imaginable for Christmas, what would it be?

If you could have dinner with three people real or fictional, alive or dead, who would they be?

If you could go back in time and ask one ancestor a question, who would it be and what's the question?

  • I'm kind of impressed with a therapist who would engage in an exercise like this.
