Do you let your nails "breathe" between polishings?

I read a while back that Bethany Frankel thinks nails need to breathe in between polishing, do you think nails need to breathe?

I can't stand leaving my nails "naked", I always need at least a clear top coat on my nails. They break really easy so the polish helps give them a little strength.

Do you prefer to leave our nails naked or fully covered?

  • Yes, I let mine "breath" for a few days before I polish them again. In fact, I just took my polish off and waiting a few days.

  • My finger nails usually breathe. It's been about a year since I've had any polish on them. Toes are usually polished.

I have heard that you should give them a day in between polishings.

  • I never let mine breathe. There are times that they are unpolished, but only because I'm lazy sometimes. :) I use NutraNail Strengthener with Green Tea Antioxidants as a base coat or a clear coat if I don't do a whole manicure, and I take biotin with gelatin every day. It's helped a lot with my brittle nails.

  • only if there was a really dark or very light polish on them. the dark polish b/c it tends to darken my nails even after removing it and the light b/c i dont always get it all off the first try haha. mine have gotten really long so the polish keeps them from a nail biter so having real nails is like the most amazing thing ever for me haha.

  • I very rarely paint my fingernails because they are nice naturally- painting them weakens them.

My tootsies are on a "breather" right now. If you remember my hubby's snare stand fell on my toes- well I still have a black and blue under the nail of the big toe and a bit of a split, so I think it's best to just not paint them for a while.

  • I do not have time nor interest in getting my nails done. I have to use them to work.
