Update on "Maria"

This case just gets weirder and weirder. Apparently "Maria's" mother is Roma living in Bulgaria. She went to Greece "a few years ago" to pick olives for a paycheck. She had "Maria" there, and didn't have enough money to bring her back home. So she gave her baby to the couple that the child was removed from. She "always intended to go get her, but then had two more babies and just never could".

DNA has been collected from this Bulgarian woman, but no results are back yet.

Oh, and just my opinion, but I don't think this woman should get the child back if she IS the mother.

  • She couldn't feed her then at 7 months old??? She went on to have more children....How can she feed her now? A close neighbor said the Mother told her she was paid $350 to sell her. OK then after 5 or 6 years "she was going to go back for her"!?? Yea Right! I'm not buying the whole BS story from the Mother.

Meanwhile, the child has 5 other kids she considers siblings, and parents who were caring for her, but have now been charged with abduction" and trafficking for taking in an unwanted child. All the articles I've seen say the DA saw them during the raid, not that they were being charged with drugs or anything else. In other words, they are guilty of walking while Roma.

  • The bottom line is you can't just give your child away without appropriate documentation and due process. There are ways to provide another care taker as legal guardian. Both the current people caring for the child and the biological parents should be held accountable.

  • I hope that child is placed with a new family away from all of them. The mother is guilty of abandonment and the new "parents" are guilty of child abduction.... because she is not theirs and just because someone leaves a baby on my front step does not make it mine. From just the photos of the raid and the interviews of the others in their community I am appaled that more children are not being take from those condtions. They are filthy and run through garbage with no shoes on..... the closets and sleeping areas are gross and the clothing available to this child are not acceptable from an adoptive parent. Everyone should be punished here and the child should never be returned!

If those are the requirements for removing a child from a home, you need to find fosters for every child in half the countries on earth. There's a reason Greece is so screwed up right now, and as a result, half of it's cities is living in those conditions right now.

You seem to forget the most important thing. Was this child LOVED? If she was then helping the parents helps the child. In America we have a different standard then many other countries and you can't hold them all to the same or there wouldn't be even 1/2 enough homes for all the children that would need it.

In the US as long as a child has a roof over their head, clothes to wear & food to eat they are well taken care of. This means that you can live in a car with 8 people, eat at a food bank and have dirty clothes that are to small. The parents are trying to take care of them the best they can & give the most important thing which is LOVE. Why would it be different for anyone else.
