ok so I have a 4 month son I just smelled his breath and it smells like fruit his uncles and dad have type 1 diabetes what should I do? should I be worried about him and his older brother?

  • First question I have to ask: How's he being fed? Breastfed babies tend to have sweet breath. SOmetimes fruity. The breath will reflect what mom's been eating.

    Next question: Has anyone been giving him solids? That can change the breath too.

  • Does he have a fever? Is he dehydrated? On medication?

  • A simple blood test will let you know if they are diabetic. Talk to their doctor

  • His doctor should already know about his family history. Of course you are going to watch your kids diet more that a person with no history in the family.
