  • Use some lemon juice.... When I make a home-made sauce, I do usually use diced or crushed seasoned tomatoes....

If tomato sauce bothers your stomach, use a white sauce instead. We always have to order our pizzas with white sauce because tomato sauce causes my husband stomach issues.

  • And yes, I use fresh, but you must slow cook them, the more you cook the more acid will come out, and if you add some sugar it balances it out.

  • Just a tiny bit of baking soda. Not too much. If I make a big 8 quart pot, I'll use just under a quarter teaspoon of baking soda. Be warned, though... it will bubble and possibly spatter unless you sprinkle carefully and then stir.

  • My mom always puts a little shredded carrot in hers. I don't, but I like it my way. I usually use crushed tomatoes. Sometimes will use whole stewed tomatoes and crush them by hand.
