Can you email your physician?

today my internist had me set up an email password so I could see my chart and email her. Odd. I bet they get a lot of freaks.

  • I have the option. Whenever I call and get put on hold, there's an ad about how I can sign up on the office portal and send e-mails, make appointments, get test results, etc. I've always worried about privacy, or maybe I'm just stuck in my old ways--do I sound like a geezer or what--but I feel more comfortable using the phone.

  • My Drs office doesn't offer this. I'd be really concerned that your account would be hacked and your medical information would be jeopardized.
It is supposed to be HIPPA Certified.

  • Yes. We have a portal with my dr and the kid's doctor. I believe DH has one with his dr as well. You can send an email to your dr. through the portal and he / she can reply through there as well. I think that's what they prefer to do if they don't need to see you for a follow up due to test results.

  • really Dard? I guess we're in the dark ages here...but good point about being hacked KTE. Although, there is nothing exciting in my medical history except I weigh 131 today instead of 130. Glad I went up a pound. I'm blaming my boots.

  • All our doctors are under the same "umbrella". They made serious updates maybe three years ago so that every doctor in the system can see all of our medical records at once. DH has heart and diabetic problems. Medical system, doctors, hospitals etc. can be hacked by anyone with the skill and desire to do so. I do not think that me being able to see all the medical records the same as my doctor or making an appointment/ asking a question is really going to make that big a difference in the long run.
