How long is a 60 minute television show after commercials?

I know it differs but typically how much time is spent on commercials? I am noticing shows are having a commercial break, coming back for less than a minute then having another commercial break.

  • I was going to say about 40 minutes. I think it depends on what show, it's popularity and what time it's on. Also, network can probably make a bit of a difference.

  • Well I know this because I tape shows and watch them when I'm on my treadmill. A one hour show is 40 minutes long without commercials. So I usually do the treadmill for 40 minutes.
