Does this seem ok to you?

So today my DD school had a remembrance day ceremony. And that is fine but here is the problem a girl from my kids class just knocked on my door wanting to play...uh shouldn't you be at school? I asked. She said oh my religion doesn't celebrate remembrance day. She is Muslim. Um last time I checked remembering fallen solders was not a religious thing. Does this seem ok with you? And even so why should she miss school over it?

  • It's none of your business, keep your nose where it belongs.

  • Sooo Remembrance day is religious...?

Outside the US, where we're pretty shallow about the whole thing, it's generally a VERY big deal, and yes, often religious, too. The rest of the world generally views us as being callous and heartless for how casually it's handled here (schools open, etc).

  • Not any of my business. I don't understand why you feel it is yours.

  • I have to agree not your kid not your business. I have enough to do to take care of my family I do not need to worry about what my neighbors do.

  • It is against their religion, at least the way they practice it. It is no concern of yours what days they pull her from school.

  • You do realize you ARE that neighbor no one likes, right???

And if the child talks and acts the way the mother does, the mother of the child nobody wants their kid around.

  • I don't know enough about the Muslim faith to answer why they wouldn't celebrate. But I can imagine the parents didn't want her child to stand out as the only child who didn't participate in class.
