What are some things that should be packed in the hospital bag that you either forgot about or almost forgot?

I have a four year old but the first time around I forgot everything I needed…I was way too nervous. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I'm wondering what are some things your ladies either forgot or almost forgot that you really needed in your hospital bag?

Feel free to provide a list of things that you took with you as well!

  • Most of the stuff I took with me I wound up not using......BOTH times.

    Things NOT to bring:
Oversized t-shirt/jammie shirt. If you're nursing, that's just miles of fabric that gets in the way. Use the gowns they provide, it's SO much easier.
books, games, and other "things" to keep me entertained. PLEASE, I was so exhausted I don't think I touched ANY of it.

    Things TO bring:
    your own toiletries
Comfy, LOOSE fitting clothing (sweat pants are a friend)
a present from the baby to the older sibling
something comfy to go home in
WARM socks (my feet were ALWAYS freezing)
your own blanket? (the hospital blankets were NEVER warm enough for me)

Other than that, I don't really remember. My kids are 10 and 6, it's been awhile.

  • Comfortable socks that aren't slippery, or slippers that are comfy. Those non-skid socks they give are weird. Lip balm and a good moisturizer.

    hair ties
    face wash
your own shampoo/conditioner if you think you'll want to shower at some point
    car seat
    baby clothes

  • slippers with a non-stick sole - I had a c-section so I had to get up and walk around ASAP, and socks didn't cut it.

  • CD's and a CD player were a must for me. Rhythm made labor a lot easier for me to deal with.

  • I didn't have time to pack an overnight bag, so it was up to DH. It took him 2 days to bring me underwear, so don't forget that!
