how can i determin if my year old haves speech prolems

he points at stuff tat he wants butnot a word just some baby talk

  • If you have speech problems, and form what you wrote above it looks like you do, he will have the same problems. It looks like the ability to form coherent sentence is a big problem. Talk to his pediatrician, ask for a speech eval from a SLP/L to be sure.

  • If you pronounce the word Problem by saying "prolem" which is incorrect then he will speak like you. Maybe you both could benefit from some phonics instruction. Go on YouTube & type in "Phonics for children". They have some great animated phonics videos to teach you how to pronounce words & letters.

  • At one year old, you can't tell. I have a cousin that would point to what she wanted and say "some" for everything she wanted until she was two, almost three. She is now a college graduate, with NO debt, a certified CPA, and recently bought her first house with her husband.
