  • It is absolutely too soon. The AAP reccommends waiting until 6 months or later to introduce food. I did so at 7 to 8 months with each child. The gut flora is extremely delicate and you will be doing much more harm than good feeding solids any sooner. Breastmilk or formula is all they should have right now.

  • What does your pediatrician say?

  • If you have to ask, you know the answer. Yes, it's too soon.

  • Sadly pediatricians are too often not well trained on infant nutrition. They get a little of it in med school and then often never again until they get marketing info from infant food manufacturers. It's not really the docs' fault; they're expected to be able to treat kids from birth to age 18. Never mind that an adolescent's issues are completely different from a newborn's, yet the doc is expected to be "expert" in all of them. It's an argument for subdividing pediatrics into age-specifc groups. Gives the doc a fighting chance to be the best doc s/he can be for each patient.

OP, way too early. Six months is the minimum.

  • WAY too early. What's the hurry?

  • Nothing except breastmilk or formula until AT LEAST 6 months old regardless of how "well" the child seems to do with it. Their digestive systems are NOT ready to handle it until then.

  • That's up to you and the baby's doctor. My son was on cereal at 2 weeks old due to reflux. The cereal helped keep the formula in his stomach.
