How do you pronounce Oregon?

I've heard Or-E-Gun and I've heard Or-E-Gone.
Which is correct?

  • Or-e-gun. I knew someone from there and she said that's how I'm supposed to pronounce it because Oregon hasn't "gone" anywhere.

  • Two syllables: ORE-gun

Easiest way to tell if someone's not a local: how many things in the PNW they mispronounce.
