My doctor scheduled a... I'm scared. Please answer ASAP

I went to the doctor last week mainly to get a refill
on some medicine. Because I have high blood pressure.
And every time I go to the doctor, even for something simple,
I get really nervous and makes me get a high heart rate.
And sometimes I feel like I can't get a good deep breath.
Like I'll be cleaning the kitchen and the top of my stomach feels
like someone punched it. It where I have to stop a take a deep breath.
I was told that sounds like anxiety. But of course I'm thinking the worst.
Anyway's my doctor knowsy husband and I are planning on getting pregnant
again this June. And found out Friday after my appointment, he scheduled a heart ultra sound
(Echo). I been worried all weekend thinking the worst.
Do you think he just scheduled it because I'm wanting to get pregnant because I
have high blood pressure? You think I'm ok?

  • First, it does sound like you have anxiety issues. Did you doctor say why he ordered an echocardiogram (that's the test you are having, right?)? I'd call his office and ask him to explain why he ordered this test. I'm not sure about how it relates to you getting pregnant, but it's something you really should discuss with your doctor. You should really educate yourself more on your hypertension, etc so you know what to ask your doctor when you are there.

  • I don't know if you are okay, but he wants to make sure that all parts of your heart are operating correctly. Don't borrow trouble and stress yourself out about it. This is a good thing to make sure of before trying to get pregnant.

  • He said everything sounded normal and healthy
when he listened to me. Just that my heart rate was a little fast.
I called the doctor's office, and all the nurse told me was
he said everything is normal he's just scheduled it
to double check before I get pregnant. So you don't think it's
    a valve or anything bad?

  • He probably does just want to make sure your body is running like it should! Try your best not to worry.

  • I don't think it's anything bad. It sounds like he just wants to be sure that he isn't missing something that would cause difficulty during pregnancy. Be thankful that he listened to you and is thinking of the possible life you would be carrying inside of you and making sure that you are in the best possible condition for that.

  • Sounds like it's just a precaution, and no cause for concern. You might want to try some deep breathing and meditation techniques to calm your anxiety though. Anxiety will increase your heart rate, so try to relax.

  • I don't think it's Okay, but I am NOT a physician. Your chances of stroke would be greatly increased during delivery.

  • anxiety increases anxiety

you need to get a handle on this
you have experienced this, so when you feel it coming on, tell yourself that it is just anxiety and it always passes, you always live through it, and you will this time too. when you are more powerful than the anxiety it slowly lessens it's power over you and it will happen less and less
