Do you put a time on guests for leaving?

Is it rude my mil put a time on her invitation? In big letters it says: time 10:30 is lunch. All guest much vacate house by noon.

  • No, I would NEVER do that, but...if I have to be at work at 5:00A.M. , I would say goodnight and let the guest stay as long as they like. :)

  • Putting a time the meal will be served? No. Saying all guests must vacate the house by noon? Beyond rude. I wouldn't be going to that dinner. I like to be able to help with clean up, and before that, to relax and enjoy not only the meal, but the time with my family. That would make me feel unwanted, and I don't go where I'm not wanted.

  • Guessing this is one of those stories that sounds horrible with absolutely no context, but there are other details left out that make more sense - is someone in the house sick, or needs to leave to go work, yet for whatever reason, nobody else stepped up to have it at their house?
