Son is afraid to poop! adult content

My son is 3 1/2 and has always cried and gotten scared when he has diarrhea, but he just had a stomach bug and now has held his poop for over a week and is petrified to go. What can I do to help him? He keeps saying that he has to go and then says I don't like that sound, i don't have to go poop… i feel terrible but don't want him to get all blocked up. Has anyone had this problem before?

  • Doctor for advice. Never had one hold it in that long. He might need an enema.

  • Get some glycerin suppositories and show them to him. Tell him that if he doesn't let the poop come out, you will have to put this stuff in his butt to make the poop come out. Otherwise he can get very sick if he doesn't let the poop out. Also make sure he understands that the longer he holds it, the more it will hurt.
