Can't get my two and a half year old grand-daughter to poop! She seems terrified of letting go

She is visiting from the UK with my daughter who has followed her doctors advise and used child laxative preparations but Ellie won't let her body poop naturally!! Any advice?

  • Is she constipated? Is this about potty training? What does she eat?

  • How many days has it been?
What has your daughter done to fix the issue before she started in with the laxatives?

  • Her diets good she's not constipated its all in her head she's mortified at just pooping naturally. Her doctor and health visitors have said it's not uncommon for children to suffer this but it's not helping right now!! It's been a week since she's done anything!!

  • Well then laxatives ARE NOT the answer,in fact, they're going to mess up her GI tract
She needs to be praised when she goes, and not punished for holding it

  • Yeh we've done that too lots of praise we have tried everything . She gets so upset and the knock on effect as she goes off her food it disturbs her sleep its so everything goes out of sync. The worst part is she cries and sobs she's so distressed!!
We tried distraction play, cuddles rewards
