Have you purchased enough incandescent bulbs?? Soon to be gone forever!

From the news:

Starting on January 1, 40- and 60-watt incandescent light bulbs will no longer be allowed to be imported into or manufactured in the U.S. These bulbs, which are highly inefficient and waste about 90 percent of their energy giving off heat rather than light, make up over half of all light bulbs purchased in the country.

Over the past two years, 75-watt and 100-watt incandescent bulbs have been phased out as part of the Energy Independence and Security Act enacted in 2007 under the Bush Administration.

Better start hoarding them! I detest compact fluorescent light...so I'm grabbing as much as I can.

  • LOL- You sound like my husb. He doesn't like the new bulbs either. Since I do the shopping, I've been buying them for some time now. They do last longer, but I do agree that the glow they give off compared to a regular bulb, does take some getting used to.

  • Why on earth would I? They cost tons more to use. We've been replacing all our bulbs with LCDs - they'll last for years before we need to replace any.

  • Seriously, skip the fluorescent ones, they're not very safe and they burn out way too quick if you need to use them in places they're turned off and on a lot (like stairways and bathrooms). Check into the LCD ones - they have soft light that mimics incandescent bulbs and last forever.

  • The CFLs can give or intensify my migraines. I've been stocking up on light bulbs all year. I don't have nearly enough, imo. haha.

I will have to look into the LCD bulbs soon.

I also think that the gov't has no business telling us what we can and cannot buy.
