Say please, please!

At what age do they stop having to be reminded so much? Is there a high enough number to count how many times they have to be told?

Usually my daughter is pretty good, but aaagh!

Not going over the moon or anything, just frustrated.

  • about a month before they die, even people who know better don't always remember

  • You don't remind them. You simply don't address them until they've used the "magic word".

  • I still remind my grown kids sometimes. In the grand scheme of things it's just a small part of being a mom.

  • Sometimes they do it sometimes they don't. There's bigger things to fret about. I seriously wonder sometimes if you actually like your kids, I've seen maybe a handful of times that you've spoken nice about them the rest of the time it's not nice, especially concerning your step son.

  • You will have ups and downs with it all through her childhood, at least that was my experience

  • I just keep reminding them that Please works a whole lot better then give me. Sometimes kids (even grown ones) can be so frustrating.

  • My 5 year old sadly picks up TERRIBLE habits at his dad's. At our house we feel like we have to retrain him to have manners! Super frustrating because his dad used to be pushy for him to say please, even when he was so little that he only knew about 5 words. Yet now he forgets all his manners! He's NORMALLY very polite though... even if we go out for dinner or something, it's all pleases and thank yous to the waiters. :)

  • Never. Although for my kids, I find it's much more effective to simply ignore them until they realize what they need to do.

  • When things are exciting, my kids sometimes have to be reminded to say it. They're 9 and 12. I don't do it as often as I did when they were 5, but it's still enough that it gets to be annoying at times.
