Can you dye over dyed-black hair if it's faded out?

I want to go red, and I really don't want to go to the salon for hair color because last time they didn't do it right and I spent way too much! So, anyone have experience dying over dyed-black hair (but it's faded to a dark brown)?

  • yes you can, you might not get the exact shade on the box though, might end up a little darker, more brown. but if you are OK with a slight difference, go for it.

  • Go to Sally's if you can.. they have professional hair care products that will help you get the colors you want.. and they can help you pick out what is best. you can die your hair anycolor lol.. if you are going lighter, especially to a red.. that is probably the easiest to do..

  • pending on the shade of red you want too.. try getting a strawberry blonde.. or a light right.. that will tone down the color you have and deepen the reds. Be sure the check the sides of the boxes in the stores if you go to a regular store to buy it. Most have pictures so you can get an idea of what the hair color will turn out to be.
