How do I find/apply for government grants?

I am trying to find government grants for my husband. Him and a friend are wanting to start up a business. I know of the website www.grants.gov but I don't understand how it works. I have tried to figure it out before and I am always COMPLETELY lost!!! Any help?

  • There really aren't any grants for this anymore. Instead, seek out a small business loan.

  • Try www.grantoneday.org, but of course check with the bbb and other creditable resources first.

  • Grants.gov isn't the right website---that's for research grants and research procurement contracts (and it sucks!). The Small Business Administration (SBA) is the Federal agency that gives small business grants. Look at http://www.sba.gov for information on grants and other programs that help people start up their businesses.
